USDA’s Discrimination Financial Assistance Program

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced the opening of the financial assistance application process for eligible farmers, ranchers, and forest landowners who experienced discrimination in USDA farm lending programs prior to January 2021.

Land Access Grant
2501 Grant

The 2501 project, awarded in 2022, provides funding for the organization to assist BIPOC farmers in retaining, expanding, and sustainably utilizing their landholdings. “It will encourage farmers to gain equitable access and utilization of all USDA programs, resources, and services. Programs to help farmers organize cooperatives for more significant economic benefits and increase farm and ranch and Specialty Crop income will also be covered.”

The Farm and Food Worker Relief Grant

Grant to distribute relief payments to front line farm workers and meat packing workers. Through this program a one time direct relief payment of $600 will be available to qualifying front line farm, grocery and meat packing workers for expenses incurred due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Increase the Reach - COVID vaccination and education grant- ethic minority populations
Kansas Black Farmers Association awarded the Increase the Reach Grant to help vaccinate the BIPOC rural and urban communities! This Increase the Reach grant program is supported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as part of a financial assistance award totaling $79,278,482 with 100 percent funded by the CDC/HHS. Transition Support helps farmers navigate significant changes, such as farm succession, adopting new practices, or expanding operations. We provide resources for business planning, mentorship, and legal guidance to ensure a smooth transition. With our support, farmers can confidently adapt and thrive through periods of change.

 

Transition Support

**Education Reimbursements** provide financial support to farmers for attending workshops, training sessions, and educational programs. These reimbursements help farmers gain new skills, learn innovative practices, and stay updated on the latest agricultural techniques. By investing in education, farmers can enhance their expertise and improve the long-term success of their operations.
